จากนั้นได้พัฒนามาสู่การสนับสนุนอย่างจริงจังจากหน่วยงานราชการ พ่อค้า ห้างร้านเอกชน ร่วมกับพี่น้องประชาชนชาวจังหวัดอุบลราชธานีทุกคน
       ในปี พ.ศ.๒๕๒๐ เป็นต้นมางานประเพณีแห่เทียนเข้าพรรษาจังหวัดอุบลราชธานีได้รับการสนับสนุนจากการท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทย ให้เป็นงานประเพณีระดับชาติ และส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยวนี้ออกสู่ตลาดท่องเที่ยวนานาชาติอย่างจริงจังตั้งแต่ปี ๒๕๔๑ เป็นต้นมา (Amazing Thailand 2541)
          เริ่มตั้งแต่ ปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๒๒ พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ พระราชทานเทียนพรรษาพระราชทานมาเป็นเทียนนำชัย ขบวนแห่แล้วจึงนำไปถวายอารามหลวง ในจังหวัดอุบลราชธานี หมุนเวียนเป็นประจำทุกปีสืบมาจนถึงปีปัจจุบัน ซึ่งในปี     พ.ศ. ๒๕๕๑ นี้จะได้มีการถวายเทียนพรรษาพระราชทาน ณ วัดสุปัฏนารามวรวิหาร พระอารามหลวง
      งานประเพณีแห่เทียนเข้าพรรษาจังหวัดอุบลราชธานีในปีนี้ยังมีความแตกต่างจากทุกปีที่ผ่านมาคือมีการอัญเชิญเทียนพรรษาพระราชทานทางชลมารคจากท่าน้ำวัดหลวง ไปยังท่าน้ำวัดสุปัฏนารามวรวิหาร พร้อมขบวนเรือแห่เทียนโบราณของชาวบ้านริมน้ำ กว่า ๓๕ ลำ เพื่ออัญเชิญเทียนพรรษาพระราชทานมาทำพิธีบวงสรวงสมโภช ณ ศาลาจตุรมุข ทุ่งศรีเมือง จึงถือได้ว่างานประเพณีแห่เทียนเข้าพรรษาของจังหวัดอุบลราชธานีในปีนี้เป็นอีกหนึ่งความภาคภูมิใจของพี่น้องชาวจังหวัดอุบลราชธานีได้ร่วมแรงร่วมใจกันรังสรรค์ขึ้นเพื่อให้เกิดความประทับใจแก่นักท่องเทียวทั้งชาวไทยและต่างชาติที่มาเยือนจังหวัดอุบลราชธานีครั้งนี้

specific temples until 2444 B.E. when Prince Sappasittiprasong, the governor of Ubon Ratchathani during the reign of King Rama 5, decided to call a halt to the Rocket Festival that had been taking place because of the fear of accidents. He called for a Candle Parade to take its place, and this tradition still continues up to this day. Villagers within the locality of each temple decorated a candle making it extremely beautiful, and then took the candle to Tung Sri Muang Park where they competed for prizes. This tradition has been further developed and now receives support from government agencies, local traders, private shops, and all of the people of Ubon Ratchathani.
       2520 B.E. was the first year that the Ubon Ratchathani Candle

Festival received the support of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. It became a national festival and, with further support, eventually became an internationally-renowned festival with the ‘Amazing Thailand’ programme that began in 2541 B.E.
       Since 2522 B.E. the King has been pleased that the main candle in the procession has been presented to a major temple in Ubon Ratchathani province, and this still happens to this day. This year, 2551 B.E., the candle will be presented to Wat Suphatanaram worawihan, a temple that was built by the King.
      This year’s Candle Festival will have some differences to festivals in the past in that the main candle will travel on water from Wat Luang to Wat Suphatanaramworawihan together with a procession of more than twenty-five boats, also carrying candles, belonging to those living on the banks of the river. This will be followed by a ceremony at the pavilion in Tung Sri Muang Park. So, we can say with all certainty that this year’s Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival will be another proud moment for the people of Ubon Ratchathani who have come together yet again in order to impress both Thai and foreign tourists who come to visit Ubon Ratchathani at this time.
